What is a system and why is system's thinking important in a business context?

 

A system is the universe basically, broken down for business speak, it is your market and beyond. It is everything that touches your business and this extends to customers, employees, suppliers, investors, their families, friends, anyone who is touched in anyway, large or small, wherever they happen to be in the world.

 

Whether you are local or global, your system could be massive. Your system carries energy which is made up of how you intend to make a dent in the universe, your intentions behind your behaviours in business, the same applies to everyone connected to your entity.

 

The impact when not respecting or understanding your system could end up with you, your team and your business, at best having modest success to at worse a catastrophic failure. Leaders who understand their system and systems thinking have a much greater chance of success.
